This is one of the most common species  lives at rocky and sometimes sandy bottoms. Although they occur at depths of up to 90 m, the adults are more common next to rocks, up to 30 m deep, where they feed on urchins, starfish and algae. The juveniles shelter from predators in seagrass meadows. It is an hermaphrodite species, in which the males can change into females. As the common two-banded seabream has two breeding seasons a year
